Miniature Pig helps rescue chickens..

Hi, my name is Cupcake the mini pig, (I’m the one on the end of the lead). I live on the farm with Lucy and Gary and this is my very first Mini Pig Tale.

Last Sunday started as any other day does, a great breakfast with my mum and cousins, a walk in the sunshine, and a great mud bath, but then things changed.

I was taken from the herd, and found myself in another bath, (clean warm water this time) and all that lovely mud was washed away, a harness appeared, and before I knew what was happening I was in my transport crate on the back seat of Lucy’s car.

The trip to town for my morning shopping trip takes about 10 minutes, but this trip was much longer, too long in fact, and Lucy was talking about seeing her friend Monique who rescues battery chickens (whatever they are).

I love chickens, we have a number of them on the farm and they are all friends of mine, so helping other Chickens is just fine with me.

After a long nap in the car, we arrived at a Park, by a big River somewhere and Gary lifted me from the car. Naturally the first thing I saw was lush, tasty green grass, which I instantly started to enjoy, only to be lead away toward a large group of people under a huge tree.

Immediately there were children running toward me, and reaching down to give me a pat, just like in town on Saturdays. I looked everywhere but I could only see one Chicken, and she did not look like she was in need of rescue to me!

Anyway, I don’t mind letting kids (and people in general) enjoy themselves by giving me a stroke, but even a Mini Pig has to eat, and luckily out of nowhere the hands reaching for me suddenly contained an ongoing selection of treats, so I guess that made everyone happy.

I spent the afternoon wandering around that park with the kids, in and out of everyone’s  picnics and a lot of kind people handed me plates of spare food, there was even Chocolate Cake ( which I had never tasted before), I think I like Chocolate Cake.

In fact, I managed to convince one of the children to lead me right to where the Mud Cake(great name hey!)  was being kept before it was handed to the people, but just before I could take advantage of my find, Gary reached for my lead and moved me away, Shame!

Later I found out that Monique and her friends were raising money for “Homes for Hens” which finds new homes for ex battery hens, I guess that’s  where the Chicken Rescue part comes in, and somehow  just by being my adorable Mini Pig self I had contributed to that, just by being there, cool, I like hens.

A number of people even asked if they could adopt one of my baby cousins when they are born in a few weeks, but that’s not up to me.

Pretty soon we were back in the Car for the long sleep home, just as well too, my belly was so full I thought it might burst, and a sleep in the late afternoon  sun was just what I needed.
